Stir together warm water, yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in a bowl and set aside.

Let stand 5 minutes.

Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, soda and remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar.

In a large bowl, cut in the butter and Crisco with pastry blender until mixture is crumbly.

Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk to the flour mixture stirring just until the dry ingredients are moistened.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill at least 2 hours or up to 5 days.

Remove dough from refrigerator and knead 4 to 5 times.

Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness and cut with biscuit cutter.

Place on parchment lined baking sheet.

Brush with the melted butter.

Bake in oven at 400° for 10 to 23 minutes or until golden brown.
